Hello, Holiday Season

Halloween is over, and even though it’s my favorite holiday, I love the transition into the holiday season.

It’s a time of joy, happiness, giving, and thankfulness. It’s also a time when a lot of us experience grief, anxiety, and stress, and that can trigger emotional eating. We work so hard all year and then feel like we blow it at every holiday party and event. And when your mom bakes cookies, you have to eat them!

For the next two months, my main focus with clients and with myself is emotional eating and finding balance within it. It’s the happiest time of the year, yet for some of us it’s also the darkest. So what do you do? How can you handle it differently this year?

I always come back to the addition mindset. Have what you want and add whatever you can to make it more balanced. Remember, a piece of broccoli is better than no broccoli at all.

Keep your other goals going too. Get those workouts in, go for the walks, and keep your routine as much as you can.

Be as prepared as you can and set yourself up for success. Have backups, travel with balanced snacks, and pack your workout clothes. Take the opportunities you can to stick to your goals.

I want you to enjoy the holiday season, and I don’t want you to deprive yourself. I hear “Ivy, what if I gain weight and lose my progress?” So? Did you enjoy your time? Did you make memories you’ll cherish forever? This is part of your journey. If your pants fit a little tighter, that’s okay. Buy new pants. Get back on track as soon as you can so you can feel your best. The main goal is to feel your best and live life making the best memories you can. Who cares if your pants are a bit tight? Get rid of the extra pressure. Find balance, not restriction.

As we get into the holiday spirit, remember there’s no such thing as failing. You can’t fail at your journey. It’s your journey. You make it and build it, and it’s whatever you want it to be. Enjoy your time with your loved ones, have the great food you only get once a year, and make delicious fun treats. Be mindful, stay present, and have fun.

If you want more support, my Nutrition Toolkit has the addition mindset and the balanced plate method all in one place. And look out for challenges and YouTube videos to help with your journey.
